Turmeric is the ground root from a plant of the lily family. It has a mild, aromatic flavour and is used as a basic ingredient in most curry powders. It can be cooked in many grain, bean or vegetable dishes or in chutneys and pickles. Add, sparingly at beginning of cooking.
